In the times of the Temple,there was an annual event on Tu B’Av. When all prospective brides met to dance among the grapevines outside of Jerusalem. The custom was that the poor, borrowed beautiful white garments from wealthy, so that each would feel lovely, and equally valued in the eyes of the prospective grooms.
